Tourist AttractionsThe Burrell Collection 2060 Pollokshaws RoadA collection of 8000 art exhibits, from Chinese Ceramics to French Impressionist paintings, donated by shipping magnate Sir William Burrell. Located in the attractive surroundings of Pollok Country Park. Open: Daily 1000-1700, open from 1100 Fri and Sun. Tel: (0141) 287 2550 The Lighthouse 11 Mitchell Lane This Centre for Architecture, Design and the City was opened in 1999. The Lighthouse also houses the permanent Charles Rennie Mackintosh Interpretation and Orientation Centre. Open: Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, 1030-1750, Tues 1100-1750, Thurs 1030-1900, Sun 1200-1700. Tel: (0141) 225 8414 Hunterian Art Gallery and Mackintosh House 82 Hillhead Street This art gallery is located at the University of Glasgow. Exhibits include paintings, drawings and prints by J.A.M Whistler and international paintings from the seventeenth century onwards. The exhibition also includes Mackintosh House, a reconstruction of the house Scotland's best known architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, complete with original furniture. Tel: (0141) 330 5431 Art Gallery and Museum Argyle Street This very popular gallery and museum's display include a range of European paintings covering the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries and more modern works. Also includes an exhibition of 20th century furniture and decorative art objects. Free admission. Open: Daily 1000-1700, Fri and Sun open from 1100. Tel: (0141) 287 2699 Gallery of Modern Art Queen Street The Gallery of Modern Art has four floors of paintings and sculptures from around the world, including works by Peter Howson, Beryl Cook and Sean Reid. Tel: (0141) 229 1996 Glasgow Botanic Gardens 730 Great Western Road This popular tourist attraction is a centre for education, conservation and research, located in a glass house.
